The Secretary General, Niger Republic Community in Nigeria, Sidilghabit Tarwaq, on Sunday said a total of 11, 000 Nigeriens resident in Nigeria would vote during the country’s election slated for February 21, 2016.

Mr. Tarwaq disclosed this in Kaduna at a meeting with Nigeriens resident in the state, religious leaders, academics and other stakeholders.

Mr. Tarwaq said it will be the first time most Nigeriens living outside their country would vote in the country’s general election without necessarily having to go back home.

“We have already conducted the voters’ census which ended successfully.

“Now we are heading for the election, the first round which is the presidential and legislative is schedule for February 21, 2016 and all preparations are almost completed.

“We will participate in all the elections with the same voters card and that is the reason why we are appealing to all our registered members to come out en masse on election day to cast their votes.”

He urged Nigeriens in diaspora to participate fully in the election and vote for candidates of their choice.

Mr. Tarwaq, who is also the Chairman of the country’s electoral body responsible for Nigeria, Gabon, Congo and Cameroon, said the meeting was to sensitise stakeholders on preparations for the poll.

He solicited for the support of Nigerians, especially security agencies to ensure that the election was hitch-free.
