LEGISREPORTS NG – The minority leader of Adamawa state House of Assembly Mrs. Justina Nkom, representing Lamurde constituency on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP ) has urged the Federal government to rescued the victims of the recent flood disaster in the state to save their lives.
The female lawmaker who spoke to LEGISREPORTS today in her office lamented that 11 communities in her constituency have been completely submerged by the deadly flood that started last week.
“In my constituency Lamurde local government 11 communities have been submerged with over 30 thousand people rendered homeless. Some of them are now sleeping at the Government secondary school Lamurde and some are squatting with their relations , ” she stated.
She lamented that the total number of people displaced by the recent flood is beyond the financial capacity of the state government to provide effective relief for the Victims .
“Several animals died and farms with planted crops were wash away leaving the people without anything to feed their families. Their homes are destroy , so they need a place where they can stay with their families until the situation improve” , she maintained.
The female lawmaker (Justina) who defected to SDP after her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket was snatched away from her during the Abuja kangaroo primaries , defeated three men in a landslide victory to the House .
Justina said that the only way to addressed the flood victims crisis is to provide a housing scheme as a permanent site for the victims .
“If government build houses for them any time that there is flood they will relocate to the place until their ancestral homes are safe after the waters dry up . It is not possible for anybody to forced these people to abandon their ancestral homes even now some of them refuse to leave the water lodged areas. We have to take garri and sugar to them inside the water so you see that asking them to move out completely is not possible,” she stated.
