Adamawa PDP Crisis: Madaki, others threaten to boycott party’s national convention

A faction of the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has threatened to pull out of the party’s National Convention in Abuja if the National Working Committee does not rescind its decision to hold all Adamawa primary elections in Abuja and allow the “authentic delegates to vote during the party primaries”.

The party had announced Friday that all Adamawa primaries will now hold in Abuja.

The decision came after a panel sent to conduct state assembly election in Adamawa, said its members were held hostage and forced to accept fake results on the instructions of Governor Bala Ngilari.

Mr. Ngilari supports Joel Madaki as chairman of the party, by the PDP headquarters says Mr. Madaki was suspended from the party.

While delivering the resolution of some aggrieved party members at the State party Secretariat Complex, the spokesperson of the group, Andrawus Sawa, said in view of the court orders issued
by the Federal High Court in Yola, they only recognize Joel Madaki and A.T Shehu as Chairman and Secretary of the party.

The party members said the suspension of the two without fair hearing should be regarded as null and void.

Mr. Sawa said they only recognize the list of all the delegates endorsed at the October 31, and November 1, 2014 delegates election as adopted by the Exco of Adamawa.

He said no other list will be recognized beside the one upheld by the Federal High Court Yola on December 1, 2014.

The party members expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as the shabby treatment the NWC is meting out to Governor Ngillari saying such treatment is unjust and unfair to the party and is a mockery of the judiciary.

Mr. Sawa also condemned the recent suspension of the party’s former national chairman, Bamanga Tukur, saying the National Headquarters carried it without recourse to the Adamawa State Chapter of the party.

“The stakeholders wholeheartedly and unreservedly condemn the arbitrary and unwarranted suspension of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur from the party without recourse to the Adamawa State Chapter of the party.

“It should be noted that Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as a founding father of the party, a member of Board of Trustees and the immediate past National Chairman of PDP deserves greater respect than he has been shown by the National Working Committee,” Mr. Sawa said in the statement.

“The stakeholders also prays the NWC as a matter of urgency to dispatch the appropriate electoral panels with the requisite materials to Adamawa State and conduct the primary elections for the House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship accordingly adding that the insecurity and issues of insurgency could not impede the conduct of elections in the state as both PDP and APC have conducted their separate primaries for State House of Assembly”.
