After being denied a chance to make it to the Olympic Games, Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons, began their quest to win a third All Africa Games football gold in Congo Brazzaville in style on Sunday as they thrashed hosts Congo 5-1 in the opening game.
France-based striker, Desire Oparanozie, was the tormentor-in-chief for the Congolese defence as she scored a first half hat trick before adding one more to make it four goals.
Chinasa Uchendu completed the rout; scoring the fifth goal for the Falcons in the second half.
Despite missing several foreign-based stars, the likes of FL Minsk of Belarus duo of Onome Ebi and Esther Sunday, BIIK Kazygurt(Kazakhstan) and Guingamp of France striker, Desire Oparanozie, were available for selection and are now making their presence count at the All Africa Games.
The Falcons next game will be against Tanzania on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria U23 team competing in the men’s football event of the All Africa Games were left idle as their opponent, Egypt, pulled out of the football event.
