Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has noted that President Muhammadu Buhari is fighting corruption the same way a former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo did.
In his interview with The Punch, Adebanjo recalled that Obasanjo fought corruption only when he wanted to crush his political opponents.
According to Afenifere leader, the former president used the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to harass all his political opponents under the guise of fighting corruption.
Adebanjo criticized President Buhari for fighting corruption in a similar fashion. He expressed his discontent while reacting to an allegation by the opposition party that the EFCC was probing only ex-Peoples Democratic Party governors, while ex-All Progressives Congress (APC) governors like Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi, who had been accused of corruption, were rewarded with ministerial appointments.

Adebanjo stressed that he would support Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign only if it was fair and transparent.
“When fighting corruption, you must not be partisan. This particular one looks like a vendetta. He should immediately make amends. This is obviously partisan and I am not happy about that.
“We want a clean country. As Buhari said, if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us. However, it must not look like a vendetta. This was how Obasanjo did during his time. He went after only those that were against his political ambition.Things like this could rubbish any anti-corruption campaign,” he said.
Adebanjo called on the EFCC to probe the ex-APC governors that had been accused of corruption so as to ensure balance.
Meanwhile, the ruling APC has issued a warning to the PDP, saying that the anti-graft agency will continue to send invitations following President Buhari’s anti-corruption agenda.
