The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Segun Oni on Tuesday convened a meeting with Ekiti State Stakeholders of the party at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by over 60 front-line APC stakeholders from Ekiti State including: Former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo; APC State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe; Sen. Ayo Arise; former member House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele; former member House of Representatives, Bimbo Daramola amongst others.
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo spoke to journalists after the meeting.
He told journalists that the meeting was called to bring back members of the party who left to contest elections under different platforms.
He added that with the meeting, the APC in Ekiti is one big family.
On the state of affairs in Ekiti state, the former Governor said nobody can be happy with what is happening in the state now.
He lamented that Governor Ayodele Fayose has turned Ekiti into a pariah state, adding that is “why we who are in the opposition are putting our house in order and we believe that if we all stick together and make sure that the party is in stable state, we will be able to wrest power back from the current governor (Ayodele Fayose) that is making mockery of our state.”
He also condemned the airport project being undertaken by the Governor, describing it as a white elephant project.
“Frankly speaking, even without paucity of fund, even with the way things were before, it is a surprise that anybody or any reasonable person will say that the priority for Ekiti state is an airport. It is definitely not an airport. We have an airport in Akure which is 45 minutes’ drive from our state capital. So building an airport in Ekiti state honestly is not a well thought out project,” Adebayo said.
