CAN commiserates with Islamic scholar, Zakzaky, for loss of sons

The umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria condemns the latest bomb blast in Kano.

=============

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has expressed sadness at the unfortunate incident in Zaria which led to the killing of some people, including the sons of a renowned Islamic scholar, Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky.

It also condemned the fresh bomb blast in Kano.

Mr. Zakzaky’s three sons and over 30 of his followers were killed in a clash between Nigerian soldiers and Shiite Muslims in Zaria on Friday. About 40 others were also injured during the clash.

Also, five people were killed via a bomb which targeted church worshippers at the Sabon Gari area of Kano early Sunday.

In a statement by its National President, Ayo Oritsejafor, on Sunday, CAN said it commiserated with Mr. Zakzaky over the loss of his sons and followers and urged him to take solace in God.

The association said the demise of the scholar’s sons was most unfortunate and regrettable particularly at a time when the energy and wise counsel of all in the society was needed to tame insecurity.

CAN noted that it was particularly saddened by the incident because it was capable of throwing the community into more crises.

It urged the people to exercise restraint and live peacefully as security agencies were up to the task to bring perpetrators to book.

CAN appealed to Nigerians to live peacefully irrespective of religious, ethnic and political difference in the quest for new national re birth.
It reiterated its earlier call for Nigerians to give useful information to security agents as they try their best to tackle insurgency.

The association condemned Sunday’s bomb blast killing innocent Christians in a catholic church in Kano, describing it as “barbaric and inhuman.”

It commiserated with families of the deceased and called on Nigerians to be security conscious.
