Chelsea could be overtaken at the top of the Premier League.
Chelsea’s title aspirations suffered a huge set back on Saturday as the Blues were handed a 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace.
An own goal from Chelsea captain, John Terry, was all Palace needed to smile away with the three points on offer in Saturday’s Week 32 game and keep their survival hopes alive.
In the 52nd minute of the surprisingly even encounter, defender Terry was at the end of the ball at the wrong side as the Blues’ skipper misjudged Joel Ward’s cross and inadvertently flicked past Petr Cech to put the home side in front.
Attempts at a comeback by Chelsea were futile even as Palace threatened to extend their lead with well calculated counter-attacks.
Saturday’s result now makes it two away defeats in a row for Chelsea, who remain top of the table but could be overtaken by both Manchester City and Liverpool.
Palace, however, with the three points are now five clear of the bottom three.
Meanwhile in the other games on Saturday, in-form Nigerian striker, Osaze Odemwingie, continued his goal scoring spree as he scored the only goal that gave Stoke City a 1-0 win over Hull City who also have a Nigerian striker, Sone Aluko, in their team.
At the Hawthorns, Victor Anichebe’s West Brom settled for a disappointing 3-3 draw with fellow relegation haunted Cardiff City.
Joseph Yobo’s Norwich City and Shola Ameobi’s Newcastle United both suffered heavy defeats in their away games to Swansea City and Southampton respectively.
While Norwich were defeated 3-0, Newcastle United had it rougher going down to a 4-0 defeat against the Saints.
