Don Jazzy/Wande Coal feud: Now, where do we go from here?

In 2008, the lyrics from “Jehovah” , a track from his first album “Mushin to Mo’Hits”, read:

for bringing D\’banj and Don jazzy to the place wey I dey

Social media has been rife with talk about the ongoing feud between ace music producer, Micheal Collins aka Don Jazzy and musician, Wande Coal.

by ‘Jola Sotubo

The official relationship between the two reportedly started in 2006 when Wande was signed to the now defunct Mo’ Hits Records. The rapport between them seemed to be at that time one of intense adoration from Mr. Coal to the Don.

It’s a Don baba Don baba, it’s a Don baba J

The scenario is seen by many as akin to an ant challenging an elephant. Don Jazzy wields a lot of power in the Nigerian entertainment industry and also has a large adoring fan base so it is doubtful that Wande will prevail in this battle.

Well the news of the separation of Wande from Mavin is no longer hidden under the surface. If ever you needed a confirmation that the Don Jazzy/Wande Coal love affair was over, now you have it.

The feud, which dominated headlines yesterday and caused ripples over social media, has put one major question in the minds of many: ‘Where did it all go wrong?’

There has been relative silence over the matter from both stars after the initial fireworks. Beyond the drama and verbal potshots, the general consensus is that a reconciliation would be the best way to end this drama.

Wande released two albums and quite a number of singles on the Mo’ Hits/Mavin ticket and stuck by Don Jazzy when the feud between the latter and former label mate, D’banj tore Mo’ Hits apart.

The excitement and gratitude that Wande feels towards Don Jazzy is almost palpable on this track. So how did Wande go from thanking Don Jazzy to having a Twitter tiff with him?

The first signs of a rift between the two became clear when Wande began to publicize his own personal outfit called “Black Diamond Entertainment” and rumours of his abandoning the Mavin ship began to surface.

Don Jazzy reacted to Wande’s release of the song by saying that he couldn’t continually sit by while his work was stolen and proceeded to release his own version of the song reportedly produced by him last year.

Now owu no dey blow me

The war of words was apparently caused by controversy over the owner of a song, titled “BabyFace” recently released by both parties over twitter.

To quote the words of Don Jazzy, “I can decide to shut him down with one call” Unfortunately for Wande, this is not an empty boast. The Don has attained repute and respect in Nigeria and indeed all over the world and it is almost impossible that his revered status will be diminished by this trend of events.

I\’m fully signed to mo\’hits

Jehovah thank you lord

Already the fans are taking sides and it is looking to be a major loss for Wande. People just can not believe that the prolific producer and magic maker Don Jazzy would lie over a song when he is known for producing hit after hit.
