English FA Cup: Iheanacho scores as Iwobi wins with Arsenal

Nigerian youngsters in England on Saturday performed well as Third Round FA Cup games were played across the country.

Leading the pack of top Nigerian performers was 19-year-old Kelechi Iheanacho who scored one of the goals as Manchester City thrashed Norwich City 0-3 away from home.

It was Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero who scored City’s first goal during the FA Cup third-round football match at Carrow Road.

The opening goal came in the 16th minute before Iheanacho stepped up to increase the tally just after the half-hour mark.

Iheanacho, who was not given any chance in the semi final League Cup clash earlier in the week away to Everton, made sure he grabbed the chance handed him on Saturday by Coach Manuel Pellegrini with both hands.

Elsewhere, Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi, was in the Arsenal starting line-up that defeated Sunderland 3-1 in their third-round FA cup clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Though Iwobi did not score, he nonetheless showed some flashes of brilliance which has made Coach Arsene Wenger keep faith in him.

Also, Sone Aluko played for 85 minutes in Hull City’s lone goal win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the KC Stadium.

On their part, Watford opted to use Odion Ighalo sparingly as they beat Newcastle United 1-0. Ighalo was only brought in by the 73rd minute.

At Uptown Park, Victor Moses failed to return to action as earlier predicted but the Hammers were still able to secure a 1-0 win over Carl Ikeme’s Wolverhampton.
