FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria’s Flamingos crush Namibia

The Nigeria National Women’s U-17 team, the Flamingos on Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium beat their counterparts from Namibia 4-0 to set the right tone for their World Cup qualification quest.

Two goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and one each from Cynthia Aku and Peace Efih saw the Flamingos secure a healthy lead in their second round, first leg clash in the qualification series for the 2016 FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup.

As always, there was a scanty crowd for the women’s game, but the Flamingos were by no means deterred as they started out very well against the Baby Gladiators.

The skipper of the Flamingos, Ajibade, who dazzled the fans present with her deft touches, opened scoring in the 13th minute of the encounter.

Cynthia Aku thereafter doubled the advantage for the Nigeria team 12 minutes to the end of the first half before Efih Peace added another goal to the tally by the stroke of half time with a wonderful effort from 32-meter.

Fans were already expecting an annihilation of the Namibians in the second half but that was not to be as the Flamingos could only score one more goal as Ajibade completed the good work she started in the first half.

With the 4-0 first leg advantage, the Flamingos are expected to pull through even as they go for he second leg encounter on 22nd January in Windhoek.
