Defence Headquarters says body of Emir of Gwoza has been recovered

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Friday said the body of Emir of Gwoza, who died when gunmen attacked a convoy of three emirs had been recovered.

The gunmen attacked the convoy of emirs of Gwoza, Uba and Askira who were travelling to Gombe for the funeral of the late Emir of Gombe.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information.  Read more.

Nyako sacks 12 aides

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State on Friday sacked five of his special advisers and seven principal special assistants.

The sacked special advisers, according to the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kobis Thimnu, were – Sanusi Jauro, Abdur-rahman Bobboi, Kelvin Peter, George Moses and Chubado Babbi.

The affected principal special assistants were – Hadiza Kuto, Sadiq Haske, Danjuma H, Bello Njidda, Gidado Aliyu, Shehu Jacob and Usman Marafa. Read more….

Emir’s murder, a declaration of war 

The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) on Friday described the killing of Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrisa Timta, as irresponsible, callous and a declaration of war on the traditional institution.

It also expressed shock and disbelief at the assassination attempt on the lives of Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Mamza and Emir of Askira,  Alhaji Mai Abdullahi Ibn Muhammadu Askirama by gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect.

The Borno State first class traditional rulers were abducted on Friday while travelling to Gombe State for the funeral of the late Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar, who died earlier in the week. Read more….

Striking LASU lecturers face sack

The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, on Education, Fatai Olukoga, has said that striking lecturers in Lagos State risk being sacked.

Olukoga, who oversees tertiary education in the state, made the statement at a youth interactive forum organised by the Ikorodu Ambassadors Group to discuss issues of education bursary, security and the 2015 governorship election.

At the event held at Something Else Recreation Centre, Ikorodu, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Thursday, Olukoga said the lecturers have no justification to embark on the current strike, and that if the crisis in the Lagos State University persists, the university may be closed. Read more….

Mother-in-law of Bayelsa speaker kidnapped by gunmen

 The mother-in-law of the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Kombowei Benson, has been kidnapped by armed gunmen.

90-year-old Ogboro Dark, fondly called Obololo, was reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen operating along the waterways of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

She was abducted in her hometown, Korokorosei Community of Southern Ijaw, at about 2.00 am on Friday. Read more.
