Not content with their nefarious activities in Ekiti State, kidnappers have moved their trade to Ondo State, taking hostage a Muslim cleric in Akure Tuesday morning.
They have also placed a N15million hurdle before his family, vowing to keep their victim until the money is paid.
Jimoh Ibrahim, a former Chairman of the Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen near his printing shop along Eru Oba Street in Akure.
It was gathered that Ibrahim was taken away by the kidnappers in his own car to an unknown destination.
On learning about the kidnapping, his wife, Hajia Adijat, was said to have immediately collapsed.
“His wife collapsed upon the news of his husband’s abduction and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
“Though she has been discharged and now recuperating at home,” a family source said.
He also confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted the family, demanding N15 Million as ransom.
Police Public Relations Officers, Wole Ogodo, while confirming the incident, said a manhunt had been launched by the Ondo State Police Command for the kidnappers.
Mr. Ogodo said, “The police is on top of the situation and will ensure the victim is rescued from his abductors.
“We urge the family to be calm as we make all effort to get him released.”
The Muslim Welfare Board in the state has reacted to the development, describing it as shocking.
The current Chairman of the Board, Abdulrasheed Ajifowowe, while expressing concerns over the incident, called for the quick intervention of security agencies and the immediate release of Ibrahim.
Mr. Ajifowowe also appealed to the kidnappers to be lenient in their demands considering the economic situation in the country.
