He’s going nowhere: Tukur will remain PDP Chairman – Jonathan insists

Leadership reports:

Bamanga Tukur

A source close to Jonathan revealed to LEADERSHIP that the president has categorically stated that Tukur will remain the party chairman and he will not further revisit the issue or listen to any call for the resignation of the party chairman.

Three camps later emerged within party to produce replacement for Tukur.

The quest to replace Tukur began when the G-7 governors faulted the way the national chairman was running the party, claiming that Tukur was running the party like his personal estate.

Some PDP governors and party chieftains had for a long time called for the resignation of the party chairman as a condition of loyalty and membership to PDP.

A crisis of confidence also occurred between Tukur and some governors elected on the platform of the PDP, prompting the governors to push for his removal on the grounds that his high handedness led to the defection of G-5 governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The source said, “The president stated that Bamanga Tukur will remain the party chairman and he will not listen to any call by anybody in the party for Tukur’s resignation. He is credibly elected and will continue to be the party chairman.”

The president is said to have firmly put his foot down on the issue having stated categorically that Alhaji Tukur will not be forced to resign.

There have been calls for Tukur’s resignation after it was revealed that his remaining as chairman was one of the major causes of the party’s crisis.

Following rumours and speculation on whether the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur would be ‘sacrificed’ for peace to reign in the party, President Goodluck Jonathan is said to have stated that Alhaji Tukur will remain the party chairman.
