Iheanacho pushing to start more games at Manchester City

Kelechi Iheanacho is ticking all the right boxes and he continues to push his claim to becoming a first teamer despite limited opportunities and minutes.

Against Norwich on Saturday in the third round of the FA Cup, the Nigerian youngster gave another stellar performance which culminated in being named man of the match.

Iheanacho scored one and provided an assist which means that his goals-per-minute ratio makes him the best striker currently at City. In an interview after the game, conducted by his club’s official television network, he said he was happy with his performance and would continue to work harder.

Q. You have averaged a goal every 61.2mins on the field this season. Do you feel you are doing enough to say to the manager that you should be playing more?

A. I think nothing is enough in football. Every game I am introduced, I will keep working hard, I will keep giving my best every day, every game, learning from the professionals in our team. I will keep working hard every day.

Q. Is it something you talk to Manuel about possibly letting you play more games?

A. Not really. Because as a young player you need to work hard in every training and if you are given the chance to play, you have to work hard and really show to the manager that you deserve to be in the team. I am working hard and will continue to work hard.

Q. You linked well with Sergio [Aguero] today, how much do you enjoy playing with him?

A. I am very pleased playing with him, he is a professional and I am happy playing with him and I hope to play more games with him this season.

Q. Looking at your goal, Sergio laid it on for you but it was not as easy to place the ball?

A. Yeah, it was a great goal and a good pass from Sergio. I was about to control the ball but I thought again to take it first time.
