The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State is heating up as the party’s Vice Chairman in the South East, Emma Eneukwu and the gubernatorial candidate in the April 11 governorship election, Okey Ezea reportedly clashed at a meeting in Abuja.

Eneukwu allegedly slapped Ezea following an argument, which bothered on ministerial slot in Buhari’s administration.

The alleged brawl occurred on Thursday, April 30, during a closed-door meeting of the South-East leaders at Imo state Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, chaired by Governor Rochas Okorocha

Senator Chris Ngige, Senator Osita Izunaso, General J. O. J. Okoloagu (rtd.) were also said to be present at the meeting, in which agenda was believed to be about the sharing of key appointments in the incoming government.

According to report, Ezea recounted what happened at the meeting in a text message that was forwarded to journalists in Enugu on Friday, May 1.

In the SMS, Ezea said Eneukwu slapped him after he told the South-East leaders that Nsukka zone, where he hails from, should produce the minister – accusing Eneukwu of wanting the slot for himself.

The text message, which Ezea confirmed to Punch emanated from him reads, “Emma Eneukwu slapped me today because I told South-East leaders that Nsukka has not been minister since 1999.

“He did this before Rochas, Ngige, Izunaso, J. O. J, Gen. Eze, Ucha etc.

“I just said the truth and requested justice and equity in the affairs of our party and Enugu State.

“Emma (Eneukwu) wants to be minister by violence. Emma is from Udi Local Government Area which has been producing minister since 2007, including the incumbent, Chinedu Nebo.”

Eneukwu however refuted the slapping claim and dismissed the incident.

“I am surprised about that, nothing like that happened, I am very surprised. That story is alien to me; I don’t know anything about it.

“Maybe it is a calculated attempt to mar my image. I didn’t attack anybody, I am not a thug. I don’t fight,” he said.

On what happened at the meeting, he said, “We went to see Buhari, that was all I knew. Nobody was talking about appointment.

“We will not be talking about appointment when the party has not decided on the positions that should come to the zone. We have not known the positions allocated to the zone.”

It was gathered that the incident has caused confusion in the Enugu camp of the APC.
