Kwankwaso: I’ve not decided yet to contest 2015 presidential election

The governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said he is yet to decide whether to contest in the presidential election in 2015.

“I’m still consulting friends and political associates on whether to join the 2015 presidential race or not. This is because the contest should be a blissful one not one with curses and in-fighting,” he said.

Mr. Kwankwaso said so far he has seen a lot of admirers and “true enemies.”

“Some people who have never met me have sent me copies of my posters calling on me to join the race, but I said they should go and harmonise their positions and possibly change those posters because some are of PDP,” he said.

Mr. Kwankwaso was elected governor on the platform of the PDP but decamped to the APC in 2013.

He noted that some of the posters bearing the PDP logo were sent to him within the last two years.

“Therefore I directed my aides to destroy the PDP posters and reserve the APC ones and wait for me to finish consultations and take the final decision.”

He stated this while meeting with his political appointees at the Government House, Kano on Monday. He appealed to them to remove sentiments, fear and sycophancy and to advise him rightly on the matter.

He said he had now become popular and people wished to see him wherever he went across Nigeria, thanks to the projects he initiated in Kano State as well as the transparent nature of his government.

He said people across Nigeria and beyond have called on him to join the race in 2015 and he was assured of their full support. “But that is not enough. Remember the presidential contest is not a joke and one should take critical views from all angles before vowing to the pressure,” he said.
