LEGISREPORTS NG – The senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a true amalgam of the constituent parts of the country as every state is equally represented by three senators each. This is unlike the House of Representatives that is comprised of members from the states in an unequal manner. It is thus easier to know members of the senate by states than the lower chambers. But for Senator Olanrewaju Adeyemi Tejuosho, recognition comes to him by state of origin, royalty, previous record of service, and expectations of his current office. He represents Ogun Central senatorial district which comprises Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Obafemi/Owode, Odeda, Ewekoro and Ifo Local Governments.
Senator Lanre Tejuoso is a blue blood of the Egba royalty from Abeokuta North Local Government Area. Born to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Adedapo Tejuoso, Karunwi III, Oranmiyan, Osile of Oke-Ona Egba and Olori Adetoun Tejuoso, senator Tehuosho has lived the path of his heritage in terms of education, socio-political involvement, economic gallantry and even philanthropy.
A graduate of the University of Lagos, Senator Tejuosho had his elementary education at the University of Lagos Staff School before proceeding to Igbobi College, Lagos in 1974 for his secondary education. He obtained his MBBS at UNILAG and later specialized in telemedicine and medical computing in institutions abroad, according to his profile document which also states that “he has also attended series of professional courses, conferences and seminars both at home and abroad.” He did his compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme at the Nigerian Ports Authority Medical Hospital before proceeding to Teju Hospital, now Iyaode Bisoye Tejuoso Hospital, where he practiced as a medical officer. Other professional and non-professional working experience credited to the senator include being on the board of many blue chip companies including Berger Paints Nigeria PLC, Custodian and Allied Insurance, Teju Industries Ltd, Iyalode Bisoye Tejuoso Hospital, and Adonai Petroleum. “He is the founder of several companies and institutions including, Avicenna International School, and Buckswood School etc,” read his profile.
In terms of philanthropy, he served as president of Rotary Club of Tejuoso, Surulere Lagos from 1990 to 1991 in addition to founding a Non-governmental organization – Iyalode Bisoye Tejuoso Malaria Foundation which offered medical assistance to the masses for free. He was also the Chairman of Lagos Badminton Association between 1993 and 1994.
In terms of politics, Senator Tejuoso who is in the senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has a history with the progressives camp since earlier dispensations as he served as Chairman of the National Convention Committee of Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) back in 2011 which produced then General Muhammadu Buhari as the Presidential flag bearer of the party. He should feel a sense of personal fulfillment that today, the Buhari he presented to the public at the Eagles Square as presidential candidate is now the President of the country.
Senator Tejuoso before his election into the senate served the APC government of Ibikunle Amosun in various capacities including being the immediate past Commissioner for Youths and Sports; one time commissioner for the Environment Ministry and Special Duties Ministry which oversaw the Power and Water Resources Department in the last cabinet. He is credited with an “unprecedented distribution of 500 transformers to all parts of the State and management of a 7MW power plant, modernization of the June 12 Cultural Center, introduction of solar power to villages, upgrading of the major dam serving the water needs of Abeokuta, introduction of the Environmental Marshalls, modernization of the MKO stadium etc,” according to a citation of his personal profile made available to LEGISREPORTS.
Married with children and a grandchild, Senator Lanre Tejuoso is expected to add value to legislative proceedings at the national assembly while impacting his senatorial district with quality representation. Nigerians will be watching as he demonstrates his legislative interests and upholds his oath of office to serve the fatherland for the overall benefit of the country.
