A 41-year-old man, Yusuf Akinbiyi, has been remanded by an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos at the Ikoyi Prison for allegedly killing his 86-year-old father, Agboola Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi is facing a one-count charge of murder and has been ordered to be kept in prison custody pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The accused was said to have killed his father after an argument over a piece of land which the victim owned. Akinbiyi wanted to sell the land to enable him travel out of the country but his father refused.
PM News reports:

The prosecutor, Inspector Frank Inah, said that the crime was committed on May 21 at about 11.05 p.m. at the deceased’s residence.
Inah said that the deceased and the accused lived together, adding that the deceased had provided for the accused as he was jobless.
“The accused wanted to sell his father’s land to enable him travel out of the country, but his father held on to the documents.
“The accused and the deceased had an argument during which the accused beat the deceased with his hands and covered his mouth and nose with pillow.
“This made the accused to suffocate to death, adding that the accused was later arrested by the police.
Inah said that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
