Ministerial Screening: Read Why Tinubu’s Is Very Unhappy With Buhari

The rumoured disagreements between the presidency and foremost national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ministerial list sent by President Buhari to the Senate for screening is actually real.

A highly placed source in Tinubu’s camp in a conversation with Naij.com disclosed that the APC national leader was just trying to handle the situation with maturity and care as he has always done.

The senate president, Bukola Saraki, on October 6, read out the list of ministerial nominees sent to the senate by the president. Nigerians, particularly those in Tinubu’s camp were shocked when the names that were bandied around did not make the list.

“We were shocked when we saw the list that was delivered to the senate by the Chief of Staff,Alhaji Abba Kyari. It is very annoying now. The person that worked for the party from the scratch and made it what it is today is being side-lined, that is not fair. It is not fair at all,”the source said.

Shortly after the list was made public, news of dissatisfaction by some stakeholders in the ruling party including Tinubu took over the public discourse. This rumoured discontent was however debunked by the presidency and the party.

According to the source, Tinubu is only trying to make things work and as such has been tolerating some things for the party’s sake.

“There are many things that Asiwaju has been overlooking in the party. There seem to be a conspiracy by those close to the presidency to create problems between the national leader and the president but Baba has been handling things with care and maturity.

“He is doing this because of the love he has for the party,” the source concluded.

Reacting to questions on how Fashola’s nomination should be seen as having Tinubu’s candidate on the list, the source said: “Fashola is not Baba’s candidate jare. Is Fashola and Baba in good terms at the moment? The truth is that Fashola is just one of the many people that Baba brought up.”

The leading opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party had described the list of the ministerial nominees sent to the senate as not extraordinary rubbishing the change mantra that the ruling party had cruised to power with.

The party criticized the list and time it took for the president to arrive at the nominees in a press statement released by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh who opined that there is nothing to be excited about the ministerial nominees.

“By a mere look at the list, one can tell that there is nothing to be excited about, especially considering the length of time it took the president to come up with it.

“Looking at the list, it is hard to put a finger on why it should take any serious-minded and focused government, six months after its election to assemble such a regular team,” a part of the statement read.

Also reacting to the refusal of the senate to screen former governor Rotimi Amaechi amongst other issues, the chairman of Intersociety, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi noted that it is not up to an individual to start expressing anger over a collective action or national assignment like the issue of the formation of government. He said Tinubu should start seeing every action of the president beyond the precinct of the party.

“If you have observed us and followed us, we have decided not to make any public statement concerning the list until everything is settled. The truth of the matter is that we don’t believe in an individual expressing anger and grievances over a collective action and a collective national assignment like the issue of the formation of government of the federation.

“If he (Tinubu) is the national leader he should know we are no longer talking of the All Progressives Congress. The APC was a platform through which a certain candidate sort to be elected. The day he was sworn-in, he ceased to be the presidential candidate of the APC and became the president of Nigeria.

“If a certain Bola Tinubu is not happy with the way the ministerial list was handled, I don’t think it is something that should warrant dissipation of much energy. This is because, Tinubu is not Nigeria, Tinubu is not Nigerians, and he is not the constitution. Tinubu might be the godfather of Lagos politics and but he can’t replicate this on a federal level,” Umeagbalasi said.

Umeagbalasi also spoke on the alleged witching of the former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Ameachi by the senate who yesterday refused to screen him as one of the ministerial nominees.

He said: “If you look at the constitution, there is a section that talks about indictment. If a judicial panel of inquiry is set up and at the end of the day somebody is indicted, whether you say that the panel of inquiry was witch-hunting or not you must have to go through the same process to be able to set aside the decision and indictment of the panel of inquiry. It is there in the constitution.”

“How do you set it aside? You cannot go to the High court because the decision of the panel of inquiry is equivalent to the decision of the High court. So where you need to go to challenge the decision of the panel of inquiry is the Appeal court. If the Appeal court sets the decision aside then he is free.

“The senate in its own wisdom cannot clear anybody who have been indicted. This has nothing to do with Ameachi contributions to the election of President Buhari,”Umeagbalasi concluded.

Meanwhile a recent report said that Tinubu was allegedly placed under watch over suspicions that he was plotting against President Muhammadu Buhari for purportedly ignoring his nominees for ministerial positions.

The presidency through the senior special assistant to the president, Garba Shehu, however, denied the report saying that it was false and baseless.

A part of the statement released by Mr Shehu said: “The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a false and sensational story by a leading newspaper to the effect that a pillar of the governing party, the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “under security watch over alleged plot against Buhari. Nigerians are hereby advised to ignore this story because it is false and baseless.”
