National Conference: Ogun West indigenes kick against traditional ruler’s exclusion

“We the people of Ogun West see the nomination of our paramount ruler as putting a round peg in a round hole in terms of taking into consideration the interest of all Ogun West Senatorial District for an effective representation at the national conference; as the royal father traditionally represents the people in addition to being a professional, highly educated and a holder of national honour bestowed on him by President Goodluck Jonathan,” the statement said.

The statement by the zone’s spokespersons, Kayode Odunaro and Tokunbo Fakeye, asked that the Federal Government’s decision be rescinded in the interest of the zone and the country.

Reacting to this, subjects of the monarch, in a press statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, vehemently condemned the action.

According to the statement, the people of the zone condemned and rejected the exclusion of their ruler from the National Conference. They said they viewed the National Conference as an avenue to air their grievances of age long socio- economic and political marginalisation and injustice meted to the people of Ogun West in the Nigerian Federation.

The spokespersons of the zone stated that allowing such an injustice would mean that the Ogun West District was not part and would not be bound by any of the decisions made at the National Conference.

The indigenes of Ogun West Senatorial District, Ogun State on Tuesday kicked against the exclusion of the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Kehinde Olugbenle, from the list of delegates to the National Conference.

The zone says it is being marginalised.

“We have absolute confidence that President Jonathan who, in his wisdom, mid-wifed the idea of a National Conference to address issues such as marginalisation will not be part of continuation of the marginalisation of Ogun West people by the gross error of excluding our duly nominated delegate,” the statement said.

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, had announced Mr. Olugbenle’s name among those selected by the state to represent it at the conference but the traditional ruler’s name was eventually dropped by the Federal Government from the final list.
