The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano State on Thursday said it had impounded illicit drugs worth more than N59 million from January to March.
The NDLEA Commandant in the state, Garba Ahmadu, disclosed this to journalists in Kano.
Mr. Ahmadu said the command had arrested 135 suspects with 1,341 kilograms of various substances, which included Indian hemp, cocaine and heroin.
He said the command had since charged the suspects to Federal High Court, Kano, for prosecution.
Mr. Ahmadu said the command had convicted 79 suspects within the period under review, while 75 cases were still pending in court.
He said those convicted were currently serving various jail terms at different prisons in the state.
The commandant said within the same period, the agency had counselled and rehabilitated 100 hard drug users in the state.
He also said 104 drug users were arrested during the period, while 198.1 kilograms of illicit drugs were impounded.
He attributed the successes recorded by the agency to the support and cooperation the agency received from the Federal and Kano State Government, Kano Emirate Council and people of the state.
