Following several hours of grilling by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, Nduka Obaigbena, has been granted an administrative bail.
Punch reports that Obaigbena was invited by the anti-graft agency to shed more light on the N670m he allegedly collected from the office of a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Reports say a source close to EFCC said the business mogul agreed to pay back the money.
The money was reportedly linked to the $2.1b arms purchase scam currently being investigated by the agency.
The source also said Obaigbena used some part of the funds he collected, to fund Arise TV, his UK based television station, adding that N568, 360, 000 was allegedly transferred to Arise Global Media Limited.
Punch also reports that the source said “There is so far no established trail of funds moving from General Hydrocarbon’s account to the NPAN account which should have confirmed the claim by Nduka Obaigbena that he received money from the ONSA for onward delivery to NPAN members.”
Reports say Obaigbena was let go by 7pm, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
