No Ebola outbreak in Ogun – Official

Two health workers who had contact with Liberian have been isolated.

The Ogun State Government, Monday, denied media reports that two Ebola virus victims have been discovered in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Olaokun Soyinka, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, said Ogun residents should ignore such reports.

He explained that it was true that two health workers resident in Ogun State, but working in Lagos, had contact with the Liberian victim of the virus, Patrick Sawyer, but they were not infected.

“There are two health workers who had contact with the Liberian victim. They have been isolated and we are monitoring them. We are appealing to Ogun residents not to panic,” Mr. Soyinka said

He advised residents to be hygienic, wash their hands after the day’s activities and be alert at all times to symptoms such as fever, weakness, vomiting, among others.

He said residents should be wary of people from neighbouring countries with established cases. He warned residents to desist from eating bats, antelopes and monkeys that are veritable carriers of the Ebola virus.

He also noted that all health workers in the local government and state levels have undergone training on how to handle Ebola cases.
