POLITICS: Appeal Court Ruling On Ambode, End Of PDP – Lagos Lawmaker

By Peter Akinwande

LEGISREPORTS NG – A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade, has welcomed the Wednesday’s ruling of the Appeal Court, which upheld the victory of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the April 11, 2015 governorship election.

Olulade, who is representing Epe Constituency 2, noted that the ruling was a vindication of the people’s mandate which was demonstrated at the poll, adding that “this has bring an end to the existence of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State.”

The lawmaker in a statement issued on Friday, stated that the decision of the Appeal Court, is a further testimony to the affirmation of Ambode’s victory by the Tribunal.

Speaking further, he said, “Ambode’s victory at the polls was adjudged as fair and fair, the Tribunal confirmed this and now the Appeal court has upheld that decision. With this, members of the PDP should admit that there is no place for them in Lagos State.

“Lagosians believe so much in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and therefore, will never identify with a party like PDP. The PDP need not be told, the Appeal Court ruling will automatically bring an end to the their existence in Lagos.

“To the people of Lagos, the state is too important to be left in the hands of mediocre and learners, who will end up running down and destroying the state. We got the people’s supports at the election because we took our manifesto to them and they accepted it.

“And while we were busy campaigning all over every nook and cranny of Lagos, PDP and its leaders were busy plotting with former President Goodluck Jonathan how to take over the state by any means possible including the use of force and intimidation.

“Also, while we campaigned with every energy, strength and power at our disposal, PDP were busy working with militant organisations, security agencies, non indigenes, and others to subvert the entire process.

“For me, I will advise the PDP to stop distracting the Governor Ambode from consolidating on the good works that have been done by his predecessors and instead engage in constructive criticisms that will assist in moving the state forward,” Olulade added.

It would be recalled that the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal headed by Justice Muhammed Sijaro had on July 1 2015, struck out the petition of the PDP candidate Mr. Jimi Agbaje, against the victory of Ambode of the APC on the ground of incompetence and lack of correlation of the reliefs sought by the petitioner.

Agbaje and the PDP, however, appealed the judgement of the Tribunal at the Court of Appeal to contest Governor Ambode’s victory and the ruling of the Tribunal but the Appeal Court ruling on Wednesday reaffirmed the verdict of the Tribunal aligning with the July 1, 2015 decision of the Justice Sijaro-led tribunal.

The five-man appeal panel, after dismissing Agbaje’s appeal on the ground of incompetence, ordered him to compensate each of the respondents in the sum of N50, 000 each
