Some days ago, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the replacement of 13 vice chancellors of Nigerian universities.
The pioneer vice chancellor of the Federal University of Kogi, Lokoja, Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi, was one of the sacked vice chancellors.
It however got dramatic when he was to leave the office as members of staff started crying . Lara Wise, (the special assistant, media to the deputy speaker, house of representatives, Hon. Suleiman Lasun) shared photos of the teary goodbye on her Facebook page saying:
”This is the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kogi, Lokoja, Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi. He, along other VCs and DGs were sacked by the federal government. These pictures were taken as he made his way out of his office, perhaps, for the last time. The whole University staff and community trooped out in their numbers to bid home farewell. Many could not hold back tears, as this man waved them good bye.
I don’t know this man but I love his story which has gone viral.
I don’t know him but I know that not all VCs or DGs got this reaction when they left.
I don’t know this man but he reminds me so much of my growing up days and the many teary ‘goodbyes’ from every town my parents worked.
Some of the parting gifts are still in our house, about forty years after. Our primary purpose in life is to live well, touch lives and make a difference wherever we find ourselves so much so when it’s time to say goodbye, it will be a difficult one and the lives we have touched will live to remember we were there.
Dear Prof, may God be kind you and may many more like you arise and be discovered.”
