LEGISREPORTS NG – The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki today advised the Central Bank of Nigeria to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure the removal of waivers given to some companies worth over N30 billion.
Saraki said this when he met with the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele at the National Assembly complex.
He explained that there is need to get more funds into government coffers at a time when the country is battling with dwindling revenue.
Saraki praised the recent policies initiated by the CBN on some selected items; particularly key ones that have to do with items like rice, chicken, palm oil and even in the area of textiles, and assured that the Senate will support any policy that will help grow the economy.
The Senate President also reiterated the need to put an end to smuggling in the country.
He said, “no matter how good policies are, if smuggling can still be going on the way it is going on now, these policies will not be successful especially the big smugglers that are well known, it is time this actions are taken to stop them from smuggling
