SENATE: Senate Resumes Today, Eagerly Awaits Buhari’s Ministerial List

By James Sunday

LEGISREPORTS NG – Chairman, Senate Adhoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, has confirmed today’s resumption of the hallowed chamber from its six weeks recess even as he dismissed insinuations of possible postponement of the resumption as been speculated in the media.

He stated categorically that the Senate will commence legislative activities and ready to welcome communication from President Muhammadu Buhari.

There are indications that the presidents list of ministers might reach the National Assembly between today and tomorrow as highly placed sources have confirmed that the president’s National Assembly advisers are now with the list which may reach the legislators any moment

Buhari had promised to make the list public before the end of September

However, Mr Melaye also stated that there will be no stormy session in the Senate on resumption as being peddled by a section of the media since both the leadership of the upper chamber and all senators are at peace among themselves and are focussed on working for the betterment of the country at all times.

Melaye’s statement reads: “I want to confirm that the Senate will resume Tuesday and that we are set to carry out all our legislative responsibilities.

“I also want to use this opportunity to announce the resolve of the Senate, to do only those things that will promote the unity, prosperity and wellbeing of the Nigerian people.”

“We are willing and ready to receive all communications from Mr. President and we will act accordingly.

“We once again reiterate our allegiance to the Nigerian people.” it added
