Sultan of Sokoto seeks more funding for Nigerian Police

He said that a well-equipped police would ensure peace, progress, and political stability in the nation.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, on Thursday called for improved funding of the Nigeria Police to enable it confront Nigeria’s current security challenges effectively.

Mr. Abubakar spoke when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 10, Sokoto, Bala Hassan, paid him a courtesy call.

He said that a well-equipped police would ensure peace, progress, and political stability in the nation.

He said the sultanate would continue to sensitise the people on the need to be security conscious.

“The sultanate will continue to assist the police to holistically confront any security threats across the country,’’ he added.

The sultan also commended police officers in the zone for sustaining peace in the area.

Earlier, Mr. Hassan had informed the sultan that new security approach that would enable residents to contribute towards community policing had been introduced in the zone.

Mr. Hassan said that effective and well-coordinated community policing would enable all and sundry to offer intelligence reports to the police.

He explained that the officers and men in the zone would continue to be proactive in tackling security threats.

The AIG commended the sultan for working hard in promoting peaceful coexistence in the country and beyond.
