Table Tennis: Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri moves up 24 places on world rankings

Nigeria’s foremost Table Tennis star, Aruna Quadri, has taken a massive leap on the world rankings released Wednesday by world table tennis ruling body, moving 24 places from 59th to 35th position.

The upward swing for Quadri is coming on the heels of his fine show in the Hungary and Germany Opens where he amassed 85 points.

It was not only Quadri that served something to cheer in Wednesday’s rankings as his compatriot, Bode Abiodun, also emerged as one of the most active players in the latest ranking as the Portugal-based star moved up 23 places to be ranked 213 in the world.

In the February rankings, Egypt’s Omar Assar maintained his status as the best-ranked African player in the world despite dropping from 29 to 31.

Assar‘s exit in the first round of the German Open may have contributed to his slight drop.

Quadri will be battling it out with other top players in Africa for the sole slot in the 2016 ITTF World Cup when the ITTF Africa Top 16 Cup serves off in Khartoum, Sudan.

Meanwhile, German Open champion, China’s Ma Long, is still the number one ranked table tennis player, while the best European player in the world, Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, dropped from fourth to fifth in the world.

In all, the Chinese players still maintained their supremacy at the top of the ranking with four of them led by Ma Long dominating the men’s ranking while they also held sway in the women’s rating with Shiwen Liu ranked number one.
