November 6 marks the 28th anniversary that former Manchester United was appointed the manager of the club in 1986

A Govan born Scot, Sir Ferguson played for 6 Scottish clubs, making 317 appearances in all and scoring 171 goals in total. He last kicked football as a player in 1974 with Ayr United, afterwards he went on to coach the national team, Scotland

He first managed local club East Stirlingshire in 1974 at age 32 at £40 per week, before moving on to St. Mirren that same year. Aberdeen was the last club he coached before Manchester United in 1986

All through his coaching career, Ferguson was known to be a disciplinarian and he was feared for being disciplined

One of the players he managed at first club Stirlingshire, Bobby McCulley confessed that he’s never “never been afraid of anyone before but Ferguson was a frightening bastard from the start.”

He transformed St. Mirren from a second division club merely watched by over 1,000 spectators to first division champions in 1977

Wherever he coached, he was never sacked except at St. Mirren where he was axed for a ‘breach of contract’ after he met with Aberden while on contract at St. Mirren

While coach of United, Sir Ferguson won many awards and records both individually and for the club

In 2008, he became the third British manager to win the UEFA Champions League more than once after he first won the 1999 final against Bayern Munich

He was made a knight in 2006 and retired in 2013 after 26 years of managing the Red Devils, winning 38 trophies in total; including 13 premier league titles, two UEFA Champions League titles (2001 and 2008), the UEFA Cup-Winners’ Cup (1983) and the UEFA Super Cup (1983).
