U.S. fighter jet drops fuel tanks in South Korea

No casualty was reported.

A U.S. fighter jet dropped two fuel tanks near private houses in South Korea under the emergency situation, but no casualties have been reported, local media reported on Wednesday.

The F-16 fighter jet of the U.S. Air Force’s 8th Fighter Wing bumped down two auxiliary fuel tanks in a rice paddy and a barley field.

The incident was in the country’s south-western city of Gimje at around 11.15 a.m. local time.

The area where the belly tanks fell were like some 200 metres away from private houses, but no fatalities were reported as there was no one passing by at that time.

Police and military officials were quoted as saying that the fighter jet separated the fuel tanks according to an emergency manual.

The officials also added that the jet had engine problems during its routine training mission.
